Advanced manufacturing is among Australia's most dynamic areas of business. This sector, which includes aerospace, defence, bio-technology, machinery and tooling accounts for half of Australia's manufacturing output, and is our fastest growing export category.

With world-class research and education sectors, and an attitude of resourcefulness and creativity, Australians are among the best in the world at generating high-value ideas.

At VCAMM, we are positioned to contribute to the growth of advanced materials and advanced manufacturing. By harnessing the imaginations of Australia's best thinkers to solve the challenges of industry, we are accelerating the pace of innovation.

Australia's advanced manufacturing sector is entering an exciting phase of growth. I am proud of VCAMM's achievements in bringing new innovations to market, and look forward to watching the economic benefits flow on to our community.

VCAMM was founded on the premise that the future of manufacturing lies in the ability to generate advanced, high-value products and processes.

Our purpose is to ensure that Victorian industry remains innovative, competitive and flexible. We achieve this by helping industry take full advantage of the extensive capabilities of the research community. In doing so, we accelerate innovation in industry.

The Victorian Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing (VCAMM) offers a one-stop-shop interface, which allows industry to maximise the potential for knowledge and technology transfer from and to the research community. Our aim is to bring industry challenges into the research institutions, and the research knowledge from institutions into industry. The Victorian Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing (VCAMM) is funded from a diverse range of government, Institutional and private sources. We remain grateful for the continuing support of the corporate sector, trusts, foundations, educational institutions and the Victorian State Government.

  1. We aim to provide an integrated network of research facilities that will deliver research outcomes to the Victorian Manufacturing industry through cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary collaboration, with a view to establishing Victoria as a world leader in the development and use of new and advanced materials.
  2. Expand fundamental and applied research and research training in metals and metal alloys, advanced fibres and composites that will allow a better understanding of the structure and performance of new and advanced materials and products;
  3. Advance knowledge about the manufacture of new and advanced materials to enable them to be incorporated in a costeffective way into existing and future manufacturing production systems;
  4. Develop modelling and design tools to assist in the virtual evaluation of product performance and manufacturing production systems;
  5. Develop new manufacturing processes from the basic research undertaken by the members;
  6. Bring together materials researchers and manufacturing industry to undertake cost-effective collaborative research projects on industry-relevant problems over the entire value chain; Support undergraduate and postgraduate research training into new and advanced materials and to encourage industry to employ well qualified staff.
