FAQs

Who is VCAMM?
VCAMM is the Victorian Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing. We are a not-for-profit organisation supporting the development of knowledge based manufacturing in Australia, focusing particularly in Advanced Materials and Advanced Manufacturing. We are a facilitator of technology development and commercialisation for Australian manufacturing firms. We also incubate Technology Businesses, providing services and resources for start-up manufacturing enterprises and for the commercialisation of new technologies and technology transfer activity for established firms.

What is VCAMMs mission?
Our mission is to help Australian manufacturing businesses develop new ideas, solve problems, find new markets and partners, and attract investment. We want to help build industry’s innovation capacity and promote and grow the capabilities of Australian advanced manufacturing firms.

How is VCAMM governed?
VCAMM is governed by a Board with representation for its consortium members (Deakin University, La Trobe University, Monash University and Swinburne University of Technology) as well as leading independent directors.

How much experience does VCAMM have in the Advanced Manufacturing sector?
Since its formation in 2002, VCAMM has worked with large Multinational companies as wells as owner operators of micro businesses and individuals to develop new ideas, solve problems, find new markets and partner and attract investment in the Advanced Manufacturing sector. VCAMM has a track record in increasing turnover, attracting investment and increasing export. VCAMM has also helped to establish large multi-organisation collaborative networks (AutoCRC, AMCRC, DMTC and AFFRIC) which enhance national research collaborations and links with industry.

What value proposition does VCAMM provide to its different stakeholders and clients?

What benefits/assistance can VCAMM offer?
We help businesses deliver on key elements for success including:
Strategic research capability: Whilst VCAMM is not in itself a Research Provider, its network of consortium members represents the backbone of Victorian strategic research capabilities in Advanced Materials and Advanced Manufacturing. VCAMM acts as a catalyst building the case between institutions, industry and government for the establishment and enhancement of strategy research infrastructure in Victoria.
Assisting with grants: VCAMM has good knowledge of the mechanisms and processes for securing Government grants. These can range from small $10,000 grants for focussed activities to larger infrastructure grants in the multi-million dollar range.
Facilitating commercialisation: From laboratory to market – identifying and building business opportunities and partnerships with industry and academia, brokering and managing resources for successful commercialisation programs.
As well as, enabling direct commercialisation of Intellectual Property (IP) – seeding and incubating spin-off companies.

How does someone become a member of VCAMM’s network, access service or get involved?
VCAMM works on networking, personal relationships and ‘shoe leather’.  We are involved in most aspects of manufacturing industry and innovation landscape and engage in both informal and formal means.  VCAMM runs a series of regular seminars and workshops, exploring topics of interest or new technologies with expert speakers (click here for calendar of upcoming events).  Our staff are available to discuss needs, ideas and opportunities with those interested in participating in manufacturing related innovation initiatives.
